So, I am trying to get back into the swing of things in sparring at TKD, but despite going to 3 TKD classes a week, my endurance is really not up there. And when I asked my teacher what I should work on, he said that I really needed to do more conditioning. He also specified not to concentrate on any one sort (e.g. biking or running) but to do a wide variety of things for the best results (since sparring uses a lot of different muscles, owing partly to the many rapid changes in direction.)

SO, this is an INVITATION! Let's do something together that will improve my conditioning! Options include, but are not limited to, biking, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, playing soccer, or taking a walk somewhere. Free activities preferable to those costing money, although I would like to trek around the Harbor Islands this summer, something I have never done, and I am also a big fan of canoeing or kayaking, which both involve rentals.

Leave a comment, and I'll e-mail you to schedule!

when you visit we can do all of the above (biking, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, taking a walk, playing soccer)

Do you have people for me to play soccer with that aren't scary good? :)

Yes, see, I was afraid of that. I do want these experiences to be positive overall, and not make me feel like a stumpy bump on a log. :) Let's stick to all the other things!

Oo, hey, maybe we could go rock-wall-climbing; does Rochester have anything like that? I've always wanted to do that.

Kayaking does not cost money if one owns one's own kayaks...

Of which I happen to have two...

I can be lacking in scheduling initiative, and oftentimes last minute works best, but I'd love to do any/all of the above (except playing soccer).

Woohoo! I was hoping you might reply. :) I'll shoot you a line sometime in late May or June. At that time I will be able to do the last-minute thing like nobody's business!

(Also, I have been wondering for ages - WHAT is your icon a picture of? Where are you, and are you really tight-rope-walking?)

Yay kayaking! :) And other outdoor activities...

The icon is a photoshop special... I'm using the original to reply....

Oh, yeah, that's me on a pole, holding myself sideways.

Wow. Are you bracing your legs against the wall?

Nope! No bracing except for on the pole!

Dig. Not so much with the biking, me, however.

When next you are in the Berkshires, we have mighty fine hiking. Plus some geocaches. And good bike trails. Also with geocaches.

I heart kayaking, so anytime you want company for kayaking, I am your gal (or one of your gals, judging from the comments above :) I also like hiking, and have been meaning to visit the Harbor Islands for a couple years. Do you rollerblade? I haven't broken out my inline skates in a while, but I am partial to the bike path in your neck of the woods.

Yay, kayaking and hiking! Let's definitely do Harbor Islands.

I have rollerbladed (my mother is a massive rollerblading fanatic) but I don't own my own skates, so I'd have to rent. I bet there's places around to do that, though.

Apropos of nothing, this reminds me of when I was taking racquetball as a gym requirement at Williams, and the teacher said I should do some more aerobic exercise for endurance training-- my (mental) response to which was, "Duh, that's what I'm taking racquetball for!" When you start having to do exercises in order to exercise, that's when I bow out. :)

Heh. But taekwondo is more than just exercise for me - I really want to get good at it!

Oh, I know it's completely different; that's why I said "apropos of nothing". :)

I would love to do something sometime. I have to get clearance to start working out again and then I will be working my way up to it, but keep me in mind. Maybe when we start hiking again we can plan something.

I somehow missed this when it was first posted. I've love to go do something - hiking and playing soccer are probably tops on the list (man, I haven't played soccer in forever...); biking will be, too, if my bruised tailbone ever settles down.

I'll also toss "rock climbing" and "inline skating" out there, though the former has a gym fee, and both require equipment (or rental thereof).

Oo, I'd LOVE to go rock climbing, even though it has a fee. I have always wanted to do it, and never have.
