I discovered the Elizabeth Moon/Wiscon debate recently, and am interested in reading more about it. (I did find a screen cap of her original post, but it made my eyes glaze over and didn't seem worth reading in its entirety, since I got the gist.) If you know of entries you thought were particularly cogent on the subject, feel free to link, or just share your thoughts.

"Area Woman Reveals herself to be Ignorant Outside of her Area of Expertise."

Lots of people say stupid things about Muslims these days. Why is this incident of particular interest?

I guess the best I can say it is that I'm really interested in feminism and anti-racism, and progressive topics in general, but in my daily life those topics don't often come to the fore, or if they do seem relevant, I am in a place where I don't really feel it's productive to discuss them.

I'm always interested in the discussions around gender, feminism, and anti-racism that take place in the sci-fi and fannish communities because I can clearly see two areas I'm really interested in coming together. And frequently because these discussions are not on a 101-level (well, clearly Moon needs some 101-work, but a lot of the discussion the incident generated is frequently higher than 101) so that means it's a good place to try and get a grasp of more complex issues. Basically, I'm always interested in this stuff, but I'm even more interested if it's taking place "on my street," as it were.
