My brother is nagging me for not having updated for a while, so here's what I've been up to:
The summer so far:
mid-May to mid-June: sang at Spoleto Festival
mid-June: spent a few days in Boston
late June - early July: worked half-time in an office in Westminster, tried to get some work done on projects due later this summer, cooked more than I have in a while, got hooked on Angel reruns, sang alto solo in a community sing-through of Mozart's Coronation Mass and Vespers, led a delightfully non-eventful life in general.
last week: in addition to office work, had rehearsals for Lincoln Center Festival opera, La Bella Dormente, some of which were brutal and long
this week: Vocal Institute, a choir camp, started. I'm teaching classes. My schedule:
8:30 am - 9:00 am: teach ear-training
9:00 am - 9:30 am: teach ear-training
9:30 am - 10:15 am: meeting with conductors about sectionals
10:15 am - 11:30 am: teach sectionals (altos, of course!)
11:30 am - 1:00 pm: eat lunch, last-minute preparations, use photocopier
1:00 pm - 2:00 pm: teach theory
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: teach theory
5:30 pm - 7:30 pm: take car/train/subway to NYC theater
7:30 pm: call for 8 pm performance
9:30/10:00 pm: performance ends, get on train
11:30 pm/12:00 am: get home
12:00 am - bedtime: prepare for classes the next day
This craziness is only today through Friday. I don't teach on Saturday, the final day of the opera (we have two performances that day.) I teach again next week, but I won't have the opera performances to play havoc with my brain.
So, if you don't hear from me, maybe that's why!
Teaching is way more fun than I expected. My theory class, in particular, rocks.
