Apr. 8th, 2005 09:03 amUgh. Computer disaster-land.
I ran a virus scan last night during a concert. I came home, tried to clean up all the spyware Norton found, and of course Norton failed to delete it. So I deleted it all manually. I suddenly had no internet connection. I rebooted it manually, and officially had no internet connection. I find this baffling, as I only deleted what Norton identified as spyware. The one exception to this was deleting everything in the C:/Documents and Settings/username/Local Settings/Temp folder. (I have XP.)
I tried to get the connection going again by reinstalling my DSL modem. The modem is happy and buzzy and all the proper lights are on. But the computer can't get an address or something? I also tried to hop onto my neighbor's wireless network, as I did before I got DSL, but no dice.
OK, I thought, time to rebuild - I can do that tonight. So I tried to back stuff up on zip disks. (The CD burner has been out of commission for nearly a year.) Well, I guess I never installed the Iomega software.
So I have no internet connection, and no way of backing my stuff up. I am so frustrated. Where's all that good computer karma I built up by years of tech support?
This is actually a lesson to me that I should have rebuilt long ago. My computer has been a sad piece of crap for a long time now. But I was hoping to hold on to the summer, b/c I have NO time right now.
