OK, so, the housing search? Not going well. I think I need to take the roommate route.

While it is a little late to be deciding this, so it goes! Anyone know of anyone looking for a roommate in the greater Boston area?

Yes, but no cats, and not (IIRC) until Sept 1.

If those aren't flat-out dealkillers, let me know and I'll get you more info.

I wish I had some better help to provide but the only thing I can think of that maybe you haven't explored yet is:

Have you tried looking further out of the city? Price tends to correlate with how close to the urban center you are. (I'm sure you know this, sorry that this probably sounds patronizing.) If lack of car is a constraint, is it possible there are apartment complexes along the regional rail that would be affordable? http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/rail/

I wish I had any better ideas! Good luck!

Because I have so many different jobs, and they are in so many different places, I have been considering a wide range of options (as far as Quincy and Revere) but the commuter rail is pretty useless for me. I mean, I go to a different job in a different place every day, so it's not like I can use the same MBTA route every day.

One of the reasons I'm considering roommates is that I'm realizing that I really don't want to spend more time in the car than I already do, and perhaps I would be willing to sacrifice solitude for convenience.

Yeah, that's true. The likelihood of all your work being T accessible is probably pretty low, huh? And though you can read/work on the train, OMG does it eat up a lot of your day.
