One-half of my graduation present from my parents was a glorious gift certificate to Micawber's, the local independent bookstore. I ordered all kinds of things, and picked everything up today. The first thing I've dipped into is Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl. Has anyone else read this book? I'm enormously enjoying it. Reichl was the food critic for the New York Times, and because every restaurant in town recognized her, she habitually disguised herself in order to maintain her anonymity. I'm only a quarter of the way through, but her memoir of that period (she was only at the Times for 6 years) is great. And if anyone ever wants to go to New York with me and blow $100 on sushi, please let me know - Kurumazushi is waiting for us! If you're interested, a quick Google search brings me to Reichl's review online (which is reprinted in the book.)
It's probably partly the book, but now I'm starving!
