It is a wedding summer again! And I am happy to say that the first one went really, really gorgeously, heart-warmingly, beautifully well.
The Die Vogel premiere was on Friday night, and went quite well. I got to bed at midnight, and then got up at 4 am to hie me out to the airport. I got into the Manchester airport around noon, and my mom drove me to the Methuen Music Hall, which is the best place to have a wedding ever - gorgeous big organ, tall, church-like space, but instead of a crucifix on the wall, they have a bust of Bach. Kick ass. Then I got to watch
coraline and
nacht_musik get married, and I found out that I was silly to have turned down my mother's offer of Kleenex. Everybody and everything was gorgeous. And then SE and MW gave me a ride home because there was a break before the reception, which was quite nice, b/c I got to take an unexpected nap and actually see my family, which I hadn't thought would happen. And then it was off to the reception, where I got to see
farwing and
somehedgehog and
girliegoalie and
red_queen and
roozle and
sunspiral and
cos and of course
pisicutsa who was resplendent in a bridesmaid's blue that perfectly matched the bride's hair and probably other people that I've forgotten. The potluck was AMAZING - I really want some of those recipes - and there was contra-dancing, and talking, and a mummer's play about the new couple, and just lots of good conversation. You know you're back among your people when you can have the following interchange:
Me: Well, I suppose I shouldn't complain about the total lack of geeks in SC, because after all I did go to see Revenge of the Sith at 12:01 opening night.
Assembled Listeners: *approving noises*
Me: But many of them thought it was great movie.
Assembled Listeners: *raised eyebrows and sympathetic and understanding noises*
(Then followed a discussion of how certain parts in the movie were certainly great, although the entire movie obviously did not deserve that adjective.)
It was just good to be back among people who understand that Ren-faire garb is entirely appropriate for wearing to a wedding festival. :) And contra-dancing is heaps o' fun, and I'm going to do more of it when I get back to Princeton.
And then I went to bed around midnight and got up at 4 am (sound familiar?) when my father, bless him, drove me to the Manchester airport and I got back to Charleston in only a little over 24 hours. And now the festival is in full swing, and I have already seen some very neat stuff, and plan to see even more neat stuff today. But it is probably time for me to sign off and go to a Brahms Requiem rehearsal.
