Jan. 26th, 2005 11:57 pmGood day.
Got up stupid early, went into NYC, rehearsed, had lunch with
pisicutsa, sat in a cafe and did HW, walked back up Broadway to Lincoln Center, was seduced by CDs in the Juilliard bookstore, had the premiere of Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, had a great conversation w/ AK on the bus rider home (she's my new favorite person to talk to religion about - a thoughtful and open-minded devout Catholic) and got home before midnight.
I aired out a lot of my ideas concerning the ways in which our Judeo-Christian heritage and Christian-dominated society has bequeathed us unhealthy attitudes towards both sex and our own bodies. I've been thinking a lot about this lately, and getting into conversations about it. I hope nobody listening in on the bus was weirded out.
Lunch was good. I'm glad I made
pisicutsa eat her first meal away from her desk in 3 days. Yummy Japanese food.
And the time afterwards was good, too - NYC and I bonded a bit. Historically I've not been fond of the city. I began to feel fond of it today, though. Part of that was probably walking around Lincoln Center a bit.
And I like Lorin Maazel a lot. And the NY Phil played beautifully. Very good performance.
AND I found out from the girl I sit next to (the girl on my left, not my right) that there is a 2-night 2-part theater production of His Dark Materials up in London! She said it's amazing. I want to see it! Can you imagine? Apparently all the daemons are puppets...
