Ahem. Request for help re: moving. Only people in Princeton or Boston-area will be remotely interested.

Boston-area people: Does anyone have space in their basement for me to store stuff for the last two weeks of August? It doesn't have to be a lot of space - a bunch of stuff will go in my parents' basement - but if it doesn't all fit down in my parents' basement, it would be nice to have a backup plan. I can't really think of any of you that have vast empty echoing catacombs in your basements, but I thought I'd try. Also, help unloading the truck on the evening of Monday, August 14 would not be turned down.

Princeton-area people: Anyone want to help me load up the truck? Standard provisions of yummy thank-you meal will apply. I need somebody to help me move everything into the living room on the afternoon of Sunday, August 13 (so my dad doesn't have to navigate stairs) and help loading up the truck on Monday morning would be super-awesome-nice (again, so my dad doesn't have to do any heavy lifting.) I realize Monday morning is just about the most terrible time to ask someone to do anything, but just one helper would be really awesome. Oh, wait...Craigslist! Maybe I'll post an ad for moving help there.

In case you are wondering, this plan means that no, I have not found a job yet, so my plan is to move my stuff to Boston into storage, wait until Sept. 1 to see if anyone outside Boston wants to offer me a job, and then move into the cheapest apartment with the non-sketchiest roommates I can find.

Not huge catacombs of space, but I do have some basement space you could use (Somerville, near Davis).

No promises yet on the helping unload, but it's a possibility.

We have a lot of space in our basement, but are going to be out of town for a week starting August 13th, which seems to be an issue for your timing. I'm sure we can arrange something if we turn out to be your best option in spite of not being around.

[identity profile] ethicsgradient.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, and I was going to say something about how 'sketchiest non-roommates' sound cooler than 'non-sketchiest roommates'

But I forgot.

We've got attic space. The downside: up two flights of stairs, and stuffy. But plenty of space.

[identity profile] somehedgehog.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The Hedgehog Memorial House for Wayward Girls can put you up for a while while you try to find the least sketchy apartment possible, if need be.

Hey, isn't [livejournal.com profile] ltlbird looking for a roommate? I think she posted that she'll have a spare bedroom available in JP.

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, once you remember, I'm sure I'll be amused, or something.

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll probably crash with my parents for most of the 2 weeks I'll be homeless, but thanks for the offer!

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oho! You are perspicacious and correct!

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
That does seem to be an issue, so I would probably take up [livejournal.com profile] stealthmuffin's offer first. But thanks!

[identity profile] meranthi.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't really have space, but do have a friend who may want a roommate in September. They're in Somerville, near Powder House.

[identity profile] samtheeagle.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I bet you're a Scrabble showoff, too. Good luck.

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the offer - I'll keep it in mind!

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! Sounds pretty good, since probably most of it will be boxes (I think most of the furniture should fit at my parents, since it's all IKEA and I can take it apart.)

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I do what i can. I don't think you could make perspicacious in Scrabble, though. Oh, wait, if someone made "spic" you could! I shall watch for that for the rest of my life.

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Good to know - can I get details?

[identity profile] samtheeagle.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
In just one Scrabble game of infamy, I was plagued with IIOQX tiles, and only pride kept me from dumping my tiles... and then I picked UC and used a T to play "QUIXOTIC" on a triple word score. Ever since that holy moment, I hvae sucked righteously at Scrabble. Just plain sucked.

[identity profile] sexybadpnomamma.livejournal.com 2006-08-02 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Monday morning is obviously out of the question for me, but I can help on the Sunday afternoon.

[identity profile] sen-no-ongaku.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be in Vegas and unable to assist. I'm sure, though, that you will find plenty of hlep.

[identity profile] meranthi.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My husband once quit on me after three turns. I had placed all of my tiles, 6 of my tiles and all of my tiles, in those turns. I think I was ahead by 150 points by then.

[identity profile] meranthi.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your email?

[identity profile] samtheeagle.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Sad (not your performance, but his quitting). I've always thought that, in its purest form, Scrabble should be about form and perseverance, not just points. Sometimes a high-satisfaction but strategically nonsensical play (creating a nice shape on the board, using a rare word, creating a pun with other words on the board) is what it's all about. :)

[identity profile] meranthi.livejournal.com 2006-08-03 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Very true. We ended up with a board at one point what was done very neatly on a diagonal. Everyone filled in all the spots and towards the end no one could place more than one tile at a time. But it was fun trying to see if we could fit all the tiles on one half of the board instead of all over the place.

That game with my husband was tons of fun while it lasted. I never get to use up all my tiles. :) My last word was syringes, which I was ridiculously proud of.

anything you need! i'll be a working girl by then, but monday evening should be totally fine to help you unload boxes.

also... YAY! i'm so glad you'll be living in the area! you can come over for sci-fi friday!

[identity profile] 2h2o.livejournal.com 2006-08-04 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
What the hell are you doing in Vegas? This year's adult film awards were given out already.

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-04 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Why don't you use martin dot a at rider dot edu.

(Was that comprehensible?)

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-04 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. I'm sure finding hlep will not be the problem. Help, however, might be harder to come by.

Yeah, sure, Vegas. You just wanted to be able to give going to Vegas as an excuse for something!

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-04 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, what a cute icon.

Thanks for the offer! I'll let you know if and when and where once I get my act together!

[identity profile] sen-no-ongaku.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
I've got to start campaigning for next year.

[identity profile] sen-no-ongaku.livejournal.com 2006-08-05 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
You just wanted to be able to give going to Vegas as an excuse for something!

Yup. It's also true. Maybe someday I'll get to go as a WSOP participant...

[identity profile] wavyarms.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome. Thanks!

[identity profile] meranthi.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, I tried and it bounced.

Here's another listing I just found on a community: http://community.livejournal.com/bostongamers/56279.html

Do you mind if I give your email to the friend who is looking and let her contact you?

Can you send me email at eeeeka at gmail dot com.
