Nov. 9th, 2005 11:50 pmThis is one of those public service announcements that chronically nonsensically-guilt-stricken people like myself feel obliged to post every once in a while.
I usually skim all LJ entries. But I don't read them all. I don't read most stuff behind cuts. I often simply miss entries, including ones where you answer questions I've specifically asked. This doesn't mean I don't love you, and it doesn't mean I'm not really interested in what you're saying. I'm just a graduate student with too much music to learn.
Likewise for e-mail. If you send me an article link, I don't always read it right away. I don't always respond to letters right away.
That said, things sit in my inbox until I deal with them. My oldest LJ comment waiting to be responded to is...let's see...oh, only a month and a half old, that's pretty good for me! The oldest e-mail is almost a year. So I will read that article, or go to that link, or respond to the comment you made that I feel requires a response...but, er, it might be next summer. That's all.
This is not meant to be self-important. I know no one loses sleep over whether or not I responded to their LJ entry. I know it's not a big thing. But the little things matter! And I do not make all the comments I wish I did, or provide the support, or give the advice, or give-a-Hallelujah-to-the-Can-I-Get-A-Hallelujah!'s. So I just want you all to know that if I had more time, I'd spend it on you. Is all.
