I know people like jumping down Romney's throat for various statements, and sometimes I don't care b/c I wish people would concentrate on his terrible plans for policies instead. BUT...I think this is pretty bad. I mean, wow.

I've been thinking a lot about gaffes lately - Obama has made his share too, and I think some amount of that is inevitable with phones with video cameras in nearly everyone's hand wherever you go and a 24-hour media that wants to sensationalize everything. And a lot of these statements have been taken wildly out of context to turn them into a soundbite headline (Romney's "I like firing people" - that's not what he was saying!).

I do think Romney's gaffes have (possibly?) been worse than Obama's, but I think that's probably my bias showing. Does Obama have the charisma to smooth things over better than Tin Ear Mitt?

But all that said..... I have been wondering who on EARTH thought it was a good idea for Mitt to take his run-on mouth to tour a politically sensitive area like the Middle East. Isn't that just *begging* for trouble? :)

I haven't been paying much attention to any of the gaffes - I tend to assume they are taken out of context and they just kind of irritate me (that is, make me irritated at the press). But the Romney Olympic moments was kinda awkward, and this Israel/Palestine moment was truly pretty insulting. I mean, to compare, economically, one country that is occupying another country is just incredibly tone-deaf, to say the least.

Interestingly, I think that Obama moment about "you didn't build this" is actually very symbolic of the difference in the world view between liberals and conservatives, even setting aside the in-context issue. Being liberal, I get frustrated that conservatives turn a blind eye towards the myriad and often invisible support systems we have, and I can see how to someone who doesn't register those systems it would be a quote to take offense at.
